“Far Be It from Me” reimagines everyday load-bearing structures and utilitarian objects as stand-ins for the figure, reflecting the mental and emotional weight of playing a supporting role. Structures are repeatedly broken and mended, creating dilapidated grids, precariously balanced forms, and unpredictable configurations. The work embodies the wear and tear of support systems while grappling with the act of holding together.
The phrase “far be it from me” signals distance and resistance to responsibility—a tension echoed throughout the show through physical dependence and visual connections. Forms are repeated in new ways throughout the gallery, creating strong visual comparisons. Each sculpture encapsulates the precarious balance between collapse and repair; comfort and grief; holding and spilling; interiority and exteriority.
