My latest exploration includes thermochromic pigments to embody change and reveal touch. This first piece has some logistics to work out (how the viewer would touch and if there is an action involved), but I’m excited that touch is made visible and also how it fades. The print and fade reminds me of the task of sweeping (or any other maintenance) and how we repeat our work over and over. 🧹🤏🏻 #broom #sculpture #thermochromicpaint #lisawalcott Sock sculpture #WIP Trying to figure out how the pair will interact—any thoughts? #lisawalcott #kineticsculpture The slo mo video was totally an accident, but it is pretty funny with this especially absurd sculpture. #kineticsculpture #lisawalcott Bristly tool type thing with kinetics (model) #lisawalcott #kineticsculpture #broomtool Keychain mini broom might actually come in handy? I think it needs some stitching. #broommaking #sculpture #lisawalcott Next iteration of the bristled rug. The first one had a plastered and painted rug making it more difficult to recognize as a rug. Since I’m thinking about sweeping things under as well levitating carpets, I wanted to try again where the rug is more overt. #sculpture #lisawalcott Besom broom sculpture from my fantastic broom making class last week at @oxbowschoolofart with @cateoconnellrichards "Ambitious objects" have taken over my sketchbook at the moment building on my interest in reframing everyday objects through sculptural adaptations and juxtaposition. #broommaking #sculpture #lisawalcott Making brooms at @oxbowschoolofart. Brooms and bristles keep showing up in my practice so I’m looking forward to making and learning more with @cateoconnellrichards Very strange work in progress. This form and surface have developed intuitively. There’s something I’m really happy with, but more that I’m still trying to understand about it. Riding this one out. #wip #sculpture #lisawalcott From a few years back, “Doubled Over” includes the amount of gesture I try to put in my work even without kinetics. You can double over from pain, overwhelm, or laughter. Flying swatter #lisawalcott #everydaysculpture #sculpture #brainstormingsculpture #kineticsculpture Movement is inevitable for this piece (or more than likely the next version). #lisawalcott #kineticsculpture #brainstormimgsculpture #animationforsculpture Swatter (menacing) ribbon (enticing) #sculpturesketch #lisawalcott #thumbnails Runaway drying rack sculpture #sculpturesketch #sculpturesketches #animationforsculpture #lisawalcott Beat/pump carpet bump From documentation of an old sculpture made from bread, a bar of soap, a birthday candle, elastic band, and a moth. Animated to expand/breathe this time. #lisawalcott #digitalcollage #animationforsculpture More toe taps… Tapping and tuning #drawingforsculpture #brainstormingforsculpture #lisawalcott #digitalcollage Aesthetics of fabric shoe organizers (broken grid play) Supportive, slipping, complimentary Taller and more precarious than before. Package torso thought Warping goals. Wish it was this easy to physically manipulate this piece! Pinch clap swat Playing with color options for this piece (rug on broom bristles). 🌈 Wonder if I could actually paint this?! Gaudy fancy textured Plaster felt pieces hanging on carved styrofoam “hook”. When making the sculpture, I was thinking about positions of utility. When making the collage, I was thinking about the figure and gesture. #lisawalcott #sculpturesketch #drawingforsculpture Duvet fountain sculpture (from 2021) duplicated and reflected. #digitaldrawing #digitalcollage #lisawalcott #drawingforsculpture This is the solution for now. Sticks from bamboo curtains as elongated bristles. Nothing is adhered. Just trying something new. Just a thought…
