Although I create machines, the function is not productive, but gestural. They are often built from fingertip materials and are made with equal immediacy. Sometimes they suggest human presence, such as “On and On” in which a pull string (like those associated with a bare light bulb) bounces incessantly as if it was being tugged “…on….off…on…off…on. ..off…” over and over again. These pieces are about a moment in time as well as an object in the home or an idea in culture. Like a line of poetry that is simply stated but opens up much further, my work is suggestive enough to be both sincerely what it is and also elicit much more.
